How to sell your car in Bhutan
A clear listing helps a buyer decide whether your car is worth a viewing. Gather the details first, show its real condition and plan the ownership transfer while you are arranging the sale.
Collect the details buyers need
Have the make, exact model, model year, mileage and location ready. Add the fuel type and transmission if you know them. Check records when you are unsure; do not guess a model year or specification to fill a blank.
Gather service invoices and note recent work, outstanding repairs and known faults. Explain whether you are the registered owner or helping the owner sell. Tell interested buyers early if a loan or another issue needs to be resolved before a transfer.
Set an asking price you can explain
Compare similar cars currently advertised in Bhutan, paying attention to year, mileage, condition and equipment. A low-mileage example with service records may differ substantially from another car with the same model name. Remember that advertised prices do not tell you the eventual sale price.
List a genuine asking price in ngultrum rather than a token figure such as Nu. 1. If you are open to negotiation, say so in the description. Decide in advance which repairs or included items explain your price, so a viewing starts with useful information.
Take photos that answer real questions
Photograph the car in daylight with enough space around it. Include the front, rear, both sides, interior, dashboard and any damage that a buyer should know about. Keep the photos current and avoid filters that disguise paint or condition.
Drukwheels accepts up to eight photos per listing and automatically compresses uploads. Photos aim for about 700 KB and must fit within 2 MB each after processing. There is no need to upload huge files to make a useful listing. Do not include photos of identity documents, private paperwork or anything you do not want displayed publicly.
Write a specific, honest description
Describe how you use the car, what has been serviced and what needs attention. For example, mentioning a recent tyre replacement and a damaged bumper is more useful than saying only “excellent condition”. Include whether keys, accessories or service records come with the sale.
Use the phone or WhatsApp field for your contact number. On Drukwheels, signed-in users can access the listing contact number; public descriptions should not contain phone numbers or email addresses. Start with on-site chat so questions and viewing arrangements stay together.
Arrange viewings and a clear handover
Meet somewhere suitable and allow time for the buyer to inspect the car. Agree arrangements for any test drive and independent mechanical inspection. Keep your keys and documents under your control, and verify that payment has arrived through your own bank rather than relying on a payment screenshot.
Record the agreed price, known faults, included items and handover arrangements in writing. Read the ownership-transfer preparation guide and confirm the current requirements with BCTA. Keep your paperwork and update the listing to sold when the sale is complete.
